What is Counselling?
The overall aim of counselling is to provide the opportunity for you to be better equipped to work towards living in a more satisfying and resourceful way. It offers an opportunity to explore thoughts, feelings, hopes and concerns in a safe and confidential setting. Counselling is not about rescuing, but about empowering, taking control and enabling you to decide what, if any, changes you may wish to make in your life.
There are many reasons why people come for counselling. Sometimes this can be a known cause such as stress, personal relationship difficulties, anxiety, bereavement, loss, depression, low self esteem …………………… ; or simply that a point has been reached in our lives where we feel confused about what is troubling us and we simply need to talk to someone, someone who will not judge you
By talking about your issues and being met with a warm, empathic, non judgemental attitude, you can get in touch with buried feelings and become more aware of your own individual ways of dealing with life issues. Through exploring issues many clients often find to their surprise, that even just small changes in behaviour, thoughts and paying attention to their own needs, can make a huge positive difference in their lifes.
Counselling is a process, which takes time and commitment. I hope that we can work together for as long as you feel necessary. Many issues can be resolved in short-term work, whilst others may require longer-term therapy.
